Richard Nixon declard "War on Cancer".  The Reagans declared "War on Drugs".  George Bush Jnr declared "War on Terror".  What do these 3 things have in common?  They are all still here, and we are no safer from any of them than when the respective wars were declared.  All 3 have failed miserably.  Nixon's insane statements that the world would one day be free from cancer highlighted his absolute ignorance of the natural history of cancer.  It is a disease of DNA - our fundamental organic building blocks which by it's very nature is designed to mutate, sometimes to our benefit (as Charles Darwin clearly understood), and often to our detriment.  Ronnie and Nancy failed to factor in the simple concept that if you keep giving money and guns to South American maniacs they will keep supplying your children with fine white powders at insanely low prices.  Of course they knew this but did they really think we believed that they'd stop the drug trade in the USA when they've structured the economy so that a kid in New York can run a block of crack the size of matchbox down the street and earn more than his father earns in a month?  And lastly Dubya... need I clarify that if you illegally invade two foreign countries (Afghanistan and Iraq, both of whom were previous recipients of your wonderful US dollars for guns, drugs and oil) and kill thousands of innocent women and children then you will incite their religious brethren around the world and put every citizen of you and your allies countries lives at risk forever, or at least until they manage to kill our leaders.

In the past politicians got into power by promising dreams of a better future and good things for their people.  Once they realised that this was getting harder and harder to achieve they turned a disturbing corner.  Now they promise to save us from  evils that we cannot see and do not understand, (ie cancer, drugs, and now terrorism).  Instead of helping us achieve a brighter future they now pose as protectors and fighters against a dangerous network of international terrorists who could be lurking around every corner, and they will derive massive profits for their and their friends corporations by making us spend more money to protect ourselves.

Everyone on earth needs to see a three part documentary called The Power of Nightmares. Written and produced by Adam Curtis and screened on BBC2 it blows the lid on how political leaders around the world have conned the masses by scaring us into believing that The War On Terror is real, and that those that portray the darkest fears become the most powerful.  It will change your perspective on your politicians and the world you live in, and help alleviate the fear that is being bred into us by the media and the people that control it.  Due to copyright (and bandwidth) limits I can't post my copy, but for the good of the future generations of this planet track it down.  Use Bit Torrent or Limewire, and make sure you get all 3 parts.  Show it to your children, teachers show it to your students, show it to your friends, and don't be afraid anymore.
